Good morning, good morning, good morning, Zimbabwe! Carl Joshua Ncube here, and today, I want to share a story that’s very close to my heart – a journey that led to something truly special, something I believe can transform homes and lives across our beautiful nation.
You know, for years, my dream wasn’t just about stand-up comedy or TV shows. It was about something tangible, something rooted in the very soil of Zimbabwe. It was about help Africans in building a rural BnB, a place where people could escape the hustle, breathe in the fresh air, and experience genuine Zimbabwean hospitality. And so, the journey began.
Helping our communities in building the physical structures was one thing, but bringing the spirit of hospitality to life, especially in a rural setting, was a whole different challenge. I quickly realised that while our people have an innate warmth and willingness to serve, the structured training, the meticulous attention to detail that defines world-class hospitality, often wasn’t readily available. I found myself through our hotel consultancy on the ground, day in and day out, teaching everything from how to perfectly make a bed to the art of anticipating a guest’s needs.
This hands-on experience in the rural BnB that have been operating, coupled with years of hospitality consultancy for some of the finest hotels, lodges, and Airbnbs across the region, began to crystallise an idea. I’d seen the best, and seen where the gaps were. We worked with incredible staff, from front-of-house managers to behind-the-scenes housekeeping teams, and we understood the nuances of creating an exceptional guest experience.
It struck me: why should this level of professionalism be confined to commercial establishments? Why couldn’t the same elegance, efficiency, and thoughtful service be brought into our own homes? Our domestic workers, who are the backbone of so many Zimbabwean households, are often undervalued and undertrained in the very skills that could elevate their role and their contribution.
And that, my friends, is how HOMEMAKERS was born. It wasn’t a sudden flash of genius; it was the culmination of years of observation, consultation, and direct, on-the-ground training. It was about taking the refined practices of a five-star hotel – the precision of cleaning, the thoughtful presentation, the discreet yet attentive service – and distilling them into an elegant, effective, and accessible method for training staff in any home or small hospitality business.
HOMEMAKERS is more than just a curriculum; it’s a philosophy. It’s about empowering our domestic workers to become Home Professionals, to take immense pride in their work, and to understand the profound impact they have on creating a truly comfortable, welcoming, and well-managed home. It’s about giving them the tools to excel, to grow, and to build a respected career in the art of hospitality, right where it matters most – in our daily lives.
It’s a project born of passion, experience, and a deep belief in the potential of every individual to achieve excellence. And I can’t wait for you to see the difference it makes.
